DUBAI // A man was found guilty of stripping naked and molesting an eight-year-old Russian tourist as she was taking a shower after swimming on a Jumeirah beach.
On May 10, the Eritrean salesman, 38, approached the child as she used the public showers, held her from behind and touched her.
Dubai Criminal Court was told the girl was with her mother at the beach.
“We headed to the beach at 7am along with a group of tourists and, after a swim, I headed to buy some drinks when my daughter went to the showers. Then a naked man held her and touched her,” said the girl’s 36-year-old mother.
She added that her daughter pushed the man away and ran towards her. “We started calling people to help restrain him until police arrived,” the mother said.
The salesman denied a charge of sexual assault when he appeared in court last month.
However, he was found guilty and was sentenced to one year in jail, to be followed by deportation.
