Muscleman wants to build up Dubai

DUBAI // Jay Cutler, one of the world's leading bodybuilders, is in Dubai to help make it the bodybuilding centre of the Middle East. The US muscleman was the star attraction at Physique Weekend, a two-day seminar on fitness and bodybuilding at Sheikh Rashid Auditorium. The event, featuring displays and discussions, was to promote the sport before the Middle East's first bodybuilding tournament in Dubai next year. Cutler, who weighs 118kg, won the International Federation of Bodybuilders' Mr Olympia title in 2006 and 2007. He was beaten by Dexter Jackson in September. Cutler said it was important for the sport's ambassadors to promote healthful eating and nutrition. Next year's tournament "will bring over all the top guys from the States and hopefully also attract local competitors", Cutler said. Cutler said it was important for the sport's ambassadors to promote healthful eating and nutrition. "In America we face an obesity epidemic and I spend much of the year visiting schools and teaching young people about looking after their body," he said. He spoke of the dedication required to get his body in peak condition for competitions. "I train solidly for four months in preparation for tournaments. I eat seven meals a day, taking in 6,000 calories," he said. "If you break the routine, even for one day, the muscle definition will be lost. By the time of the Mr Olympia final I will have reduced to only three per cent body fat." Cutler will show off his physique at the Indian High School and the Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers before returning to Las Vegas. A venue has not been found for next year's Dubai tournament. tbrooks@thenational.ae

Structural weaknesses facing Israel economy

1. Labour productivity is lower than the average of the developed economies, particularly in the non-tradable industries.
2. The low level of basic skills among workers and the high level of inequality between those with various skills.
3. Low employment rates, particularly among Arab women and Ultra-Othodox Jewish men.
4. A lack of basic knowledge required for integration into the labour force, due to the lack of core curriculum studies in schools for Ultra-Othodox Jews.
5. A need to upgrade and expand physical infrastructure, particularly mass transit infrastructure.
6. The poverty rate at more than double the OECD average.
7. Population growth of about 2 per cent per year, compared to 0.6 per cent OECD average posing challenge for fiscal policy and underpinning pressure on education, health care, welfare housing and physical infrastructure, which will increase in the coming years.

Chef Nobu's advice for eating sushi

“One mistake people always make is adding extra wasabi. There is no need for this, because it should already be there between the rice and the fish.
“When eating nigiri, you must dip the fish – not the rice – in soy sauce, otherwise the rice will collapse. Also, don’t use too much soy sauce or it will make you thirsty. For sushi rolls, dip a little of the rice-covered roll lightly in soy sauce and eat in one bite.
“Chopsticks are acceptable, but really, I recommend using your fingers for sushi. Do use chopsticks for sashimi, though.
“The ginger should be eaten separately as a palette cleanser and used to clear the mouth when switching between different pieces of fish.”
