DUBAI // Two accidents involving several cars on Sheikh Zayed Road caused major backlogs around motorway exits this morning.
The first accident happened when a driver, who was speeding on Sheikh Zayed Road from Abu Dhabi to Dubai, lost control of his car and broke the barricade.
Police said the car skidded into the oncoming traffic lane, halting cars on both sides of the barricade.
The driver sustained minor injuries and was assisted by the ambulance on site.
Officials said there were no other casualties. Dubai Police sent out a tweet, cautioning motorists about the delays.
"An accident has been reported on Sheikh Zayed road near to Al Safa bridge towards Abu Dhabi."
The accident occurred at 8:44am.
In a second, unrelated incident a 30-year-old Filipino man was hit by a bus while crossing the exit to the service road near the Kia Motors showroom.
A Dubai Police spokesman said he was seriously injured and was admitted to Rashid Hospital.
Anjaan, a Twitter user, said traffic cleared after the Meydaan exit.
