RAS AL KHAIMAH // A five-year-old Emirati boy was killed after his mother drove over him at their home in Shamal on Friday.
The female driver was pulling away from her house when she ran over the child. She took the boy to Saqr Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Col Arif Al Kaz, director of Al Mamoura Police station, said: “We urge parents to watch the area around their vehicles before driving. Parents should make sure their children are safe inside the house or far away from the vehicles.”
He also urged parents to fit sensors to their vehicles to avoid such accidents.
In August this year, an Indian father ran over and killed his 18-month-old daughter while reversing his 4x4 from family home in Hor Al Anz.
In January last year, a three-year-old Emirati was killed after being run over by her uncle’s car while she played outside her home in Al Seh in RAK.
In 2014, five youngsters were killed after being hit by cars at their homes. In December, a toddler was killed when his father accidentally ran him over while reversing his car at home in Fujairah; a 16-month-old Emirati boy died in RAK after his aunt reversed her car over him at their home on November 5. An eight-year-old boy died in Al Maamoura, RAK, on October 12 when his 28-year-old brother accidentally ran him over. On October 2, a year-old Pakistani girl died in Ajman after being accidentally run over in front of her home by her cousin. On September 30, a toddler was killed as her cousin drove away from a house in Ajman.
