More than 3,400 paid parking spaces will be added to four areas in downtown Abu Dhabi from tomorrow, November 12.

An additional 886 standard parking bays will open in sector W11, bound by Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street, Sultan bin Zayed the First Street, Al Falah Street and Zayed the First Street.

In Al Bateen, nearly 1,000 parking bays will be added, including 254 standard parking bays near the American Community School of Abu Dhabi and the British Council, in an area bound by Al Jazza Street, King Abdulla bin Abdulazi, Mileih Street and Zayed the First Street. A further 728 in the neighbouring sector bordered by Al Bateen Street, King Abdulla bin Abdulaziz Street, Al Yasat Street and Mileih Street.

The Department of Transport announcement comes with a friendly reminder that these areas will be patrolled by parking inspectors.

Mohammed Al Muhairi, deputy general manager of the Integrated Transport Centre, has reminded drivers that it is illegal to double park or to park on yellow and grey markings, at drop off points, in front of fire hydrants, pedestrian crossings and in the middle of the road.
