The Mom Souq in the middle of the Life & Style Show will be hard to miss.

Visitors are likely to come across the display featuring 12 UAE-based entrepreneurs – or mompreneurs, as they like to call themselves – who while raising their children, are also building independent businesses with self-made products.

They sell things like decorative covers for Kleenex boxes, maternity products and baby clothes.

One mother offers her certified services as a life coach, while two others are selling blinged out baby soothers and baby clothes embellished with Swarovski crystals.

The mums are part of an online community called momsouq.com, an online bazaar and support network for local mompreneurs.

The Dubai-based company was started in 2012 by Mona Tavassoli as a way to give mothers a place to go to buy and sell their goods.

Now the company also offers the mothers a chance to join forces and share the costs of exhibiting their wares at large shows such as the Life & Style Show.

“It’s genius,” said Dina Alashi, a 28-year-old Jordanian mompreneur who lives in Abu Dhabi.

“Here comes a group that supports mums and their ideas. It’s what every mum needs. And seeing other mums and seeing what they’re doing, it’s very inspirational.”
