Two men who tried to throw fireworks into a salesman’s car after threatening him will spend three months in prison each.
On June 6, the two Emirati defendants approached the 27-year-old Indian salesman while he was waiting at a traffic light on Hessa Street and ordered him to get out of his car.
The salesman told Dubai Criminal Court that one of the two defendants threatened to beat him then lit up some fireworks and tried to throw them into the car.
The men then drove away. Court records did not disclose the reason behind the altercation or how the men knew the salesman.
A Syrian man, whose was also waiting at the traffic light, witnessed the dispute and called police after hearing a bang.
"I didn't know if it was a gun shot or what but I figured something not right so I called the police," said the 42-year-old project manager.
Police tracked the two defendants, aged 27 and 34, the same day using the car plate number given to them by the salesman.
The men were told to report to the police station where the victim identified them as the men who threatened him.
Police searched one of the defendants' car and found fireworks and tear gas, which they confiscated.
Both were convicted of endangering a life, issuing threats and possessing fireworks and sentenced to three months in jail.
