Men posed as CID officers to rob victims’ home in Dubai

The men, who have been charged with robbery, assault and trespassing appeared at Dubai Criminal Court on Sunday. They deny the charges against them.

DUBAI // Four men posing as police officers slapped a woman, cut off her necklace, and then assaulted and restrained her brother before robbing their house, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Sunday.

Pakistanis W S, 26, A A, 30, S K, 30 and Indian J T, 23, were charged with impersonating CID officers, robbery, assault and trespassing.

Three of the defendants denied all the charges against them. W S remains at large.

Prosecutors said that at 10.30pm on January 5, the men knocked on the door of Pakistani salesman A S, who lives in Al Muraqqabat with his sister.

“As I opened the door, I received a slap on my face and four men barged their way into the flat. One of them grabbed a chain from my neck. They tied my hands with a plastic rope,” said A S’s 30-year-old sister.

A S told the court that after his sister was tied up, the men, who said they were with Dubai Police, attacked him.

“They showed me some identification cards and then tied my hands and legs before they started kicking me on the face and body.”

The men stole Dh15,000 in cash and three mobile phones before running away, A S said.

One of the defendants was caught by neighbours who responded to the sister’s screams for help.

Two other defendants, who have previous criminal records, were identified by the victims after police showed them their pictures. The hearing will resume on December 30.
