DUBAI // A gardener stole 22 ultrasonic devices used to call falcons and 37 lithium batteries valued at Dh57,000 from his employer’s warehouse.
His Iraqi boss reported the theft to police after noticing that the items were missing from the warehouse in Lehbab on April 21 last year.
“I saw someone leaving with a large plastic bag. He looked tense,” said the boss, 47. “After checking I found the items had been stolen.”
The boss caught up with the man and questioned him.
“He told me that my gardener assigned him to carry the items after he put them in the bag.”
The gardener and two other men – an Afghan, 22, and a Pakistani, 23 – were arrested. There was no mention of charges against the man found with the bag.
During questioning the two said the gardener, a 24-year-old Pakistani, would give them items to take from the warehouse which he would later sell.
The gardener was sentenced to six months in jail. The two other men were found guilty of aiding and abetting and also sentenced to six months.
All three will be deported after serving their terms.
