DUBAI // Seven Pakistani men who beat a compatriot to death with cricket bats must serve out their jail terms, Dubai Court of Appeal has ruled.
The men, aged between 19 and 45, took part in a brawl at a lorry drivers’ cafe on April 24, 2015.
The victim died from head injuries after he was attacked with cricket bats and iron bars.
Three of the men were charged with causing the victim’s death, while four were charged with assault. They denied all charges but were convicted in criminal court. The appeal court upheld their sentence.
Police said the fight broke out at a cafe stop on the Abu Dhabi-bound carriageway of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. The cause of the fight was not mentioned in court.
Two of the men were convicted of causing the victim’s death and were sentenced to three years in jail each. The other five were found guilty of assault and sentenced to a year in jail each.
They will be deported after serving their prison terms.
