DUBAI // Three men broke into a school and stole more than Dh23,000 in cash, a court heard.

B A, 49, A A, 31, both from Yemen, and Egyptian J A, 55, all unemployed, are charged with burglary and causing damage valued at Dh4,700 to two doors and a safe at the school.

They all deny the charges in court.

Prosecutors at Dubai Criminal Court said the three men broke into a private school on May 29 this year after driving there in a rented car.

Records state they used an iron bar and a screwdriver to get access to the accountants’ office and stole Dh23,384.

Human resources manager A B, 36, from Jordan, said he discovered the theft the next morning and called police.

“The school’s gates were closed at 10.30pm that day,” said A B.

Policeman M A, 34, said: “The Yemenis were arrested in Ajman and we found Dh640 with BA and Dh8,100 with A A,” said the policeman. B A confessed that his share of the stolen cash was Dh4,000, he said.

Another police officer said that a search of the home of B A and A A uncovered jewellery that had been stolen from a house in Al Qusais.

Records show B A and A A had criminal records for previous burglaries. They had been deported but were able to sneak back into the UAE through Oman.

The next hearing will be on December 20.
