DUBAI // Three men who were each sentenced to three years in jail for possessing 155 kilograms of illegal drugs must serve their entire terms, Dubai Court of Appeal has ruled.

Prosecutors had sought a harsher punishment for the Turks, aged between 30 and 41, insisting that they intended to sell the amphetamines.

The men denied a charge of possessing drugs with the intention to sell and claimed they did not know the tablets were illegal.

An Emirati police captain, 38, said he was part of the team that arrested the men after a tip-off. “We raided a flat in Naif where the men were caught as they arranged the tablets into boxes. We also found cash in the apartment,” the officer said.

The captain said the men were wearing plastic gloves and placing thousands of tablets in different boxes and bags.

Prosecutors said one of them confessed during questioning and said he had been promised US$15,000 (Dh55,000) in return for storing the drugs.

Each of them was fined Dh50,000. They will be deported after serving their jail terms.
