More than 1,800 Mazda vehicles are being recalled in the UAE over a possible fault that could result in injuries.
Galadari Automobiles, Mazda's distributor in the UAE, said a limited number of Mazda CX-5, Mazda CX-3, Mazde3 BL, Masda6 GH and Mazda6 GJ models manufactured between 2008 – 2015 could be affected.
An "insufficient rustproof coating" was applied to the ends of the external cylinders of the rear liftgate gas stay dampers (lift supports) that hold up the rear cargo door. If water containing road salt enters, it can cause corrosion and may eventually cause it to break over time.
“We regret to say, on gas filling type liftgate stay dampers, rustproof coating, which is applied to the caulking part at the end portion of external cylinder, may not be appropriate,” said the UAE distributor.
“It is possible that the water containing road salt used in salt regions may penetrate into the resin end cover, allowing the end portion of external cylinder to be corroded.
“If the vehicle continues to be used with such stay damper, the corrosion may progress over time, allowing the thickness of cylinder wall to decrease.”
The rear liftgate may drop suddenly, and cause injury.
“In the worst case, the external cylinder may break off due to internal gas pressure, causing injury to people around the vehicle."
More than 575,000 vehicles were affected in the United States.
But there have been no reports of accidents or injuries as a result.
The UAE distributor urged owners of the vehicles to contact the customer care centre to arrange for repairs which will be free of charge.

The number of asylum applications in the UK has reached a new record high, driven by those illegally entering the country in small boats crossing the English Channel.
A total of 111,084 people applied for asylum in the UK in the year to June 2025, the highest number for any 12-month period since current records began in 2001.
Asylum seekers and their families can be housed in temporary accommodation while their claim is assessed.
The Home Office provides the accommodation, meaning asylum seekers cannot choose where they live.
When there is not enough housing, the Home Office can move people to hotels or large sites like former military bases.

Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed bin Talal's new plant-based menu will launch at Four Seasons hotels in Dubai this November. A desire to cater to people looking for clean, healthy meals beyond green salad is what inspired Prince Khaled and American celebrity chef Matthew Kenney to create Folia. The word means "from the leaves" in Latin, and the exclusive menu offers fine plant-based cuisine across Four Seasons properties in Los Angeles, Bahrain and, soon, Dubai.

The food is vibrant and colourful, full of fresh dishes such as the hearts of palm ceviche with California fruit, vegetables and edible flowers; green hearb tacos filled with roasted squash and king oyster barbacoa; and a savoury coconut cream pie with macadamia crust.
In March 2019, the Folia menu reached Gulf shores, as it was introduced at the Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay, where it is served at the Bay View Lounge. Next, on Tuesday, November 1 – also known as World Vegan Day – it will come to the UAE, to the Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach and the Four Seasons DIFC, both properties Prince Khaled has spent "considerable time at and love".
There are also plans to take Folia to several more locations throughout the Middle East and Europe.
While health-conscious diners will be attracted to the concept, Prince Khaled is careful to stress Folia is "not meant for a specific subset of customers. It is meant for everyone who wants a culinary experience without the negative impact that eating out so often comes with."
