DUBAI // A male masseuse broke a policeman’s finger in an attempt to escape arrest, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Monday.

20-year-old F H, from Vietnam, is charged with assaulting the policeman K A on November 29 last year. He is also charged with physically assaulting two other police officers and with resisting arrest.

Prosecutors said on the date of the incident police officers walking in a neighborhood in Bur Dubai overheard the defendant along with others offering massage services to residents.

The officers stopped the group of men and asked for identification and licenses. F H started running away.

“I saw my colleague chasing F H so I headed to assist him and I managed to catch the defendant but he resisted hard and pushed me the floor breaking one of my fingers in the right hand,” said Emirati K A, 18.

F H was restrained and taken into custody while KA needed treatment and was left with a permanent disability in his finger as he lost full mobility in it.

F H was not present in court to enter a plea.

The next hearing will be on January 11.
