ABU DHABI // Various charities are now taking donations for the earthquake relief.
While the Emirates Red Crescent is providing assistance to those affected by the quake that struck on Saturday, the charity does not have a dedicated hotline for the public to donate.
Residents, however, can donate to dedicated relief funds set up by international charities to help the humanitarian efforts.
Save the Children has set up the Nepal Earthquake Children's Relief Fund (savethechildren.org). The global charity said donations to the initiative would go to protecting vulnerable children and provide desperately needed relief to families.
Global Giving aims to raise US$1million (Dh3.67million) through globalgiving.org.
The online fundraising platform said the donations would help first responders meet survivors’ immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products and shelter.
Once the initial relief work was complete, the fund would transition to support longer-term recovery efforts run by vetted, local organisations.
Humanitarian organisation Care has workers in Nepal who are currently assessing the situation and determining immediate needs. The group has worked in the country since 1978. To donate, visit care.org/donate.
