DUBAI // The manager of a contracting company allegedly threatened to massacre workers of a rival company after losing a contract to them, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Monday.
Prosecutors told the court that in July last year, Egyptian H A, 40, had lost the contract for a project in Oud Metha to the other company.
On July 12, after the owner of the project had cancelled H A’s company’s licence, workers from the new company arrived at the construction site to take over work. However, they were confronted by the former security guard, who prevented any of them from entering the site.
“The manager of our company, called The New Valley Contracting, an engineer, a representative of the owner, and myself headed to the location that day,” said Egyptian M A, a legal consultant for the second company.
He said that as they started to unload their equipment, the guard stopped them, leading M A to call police.
M A told the court that shortly thereafter, the defendant arrived and threatened the manager and workers, saying he would massacre anyone that set foot on the site.
Emirati policeman R L, 28, was called out to attend the incident. “I was briefed about the issue, afterwhich I spoke to H A, asking him to resolve the matter amicably, but he refused and started screaming and threatening,” the officer said.
In court, H A denied a charge of issuing threats to kill.
A verdict will be given on October 21.
