Man ‘was married over telephone’, Abu Dhabi court hears

ABU DHABI // A man accused of adultery said he was married to the woman by phone, the Appeals Court heard on Monday.

M N, from Bangladesh, is facing adultery charges.

“I did not commit adultery, and I was already married to the woman by telephone,” he told the court.

“How do you get married by phone?” asked the chief justice.

“We exchanged vows and she became my wife,” he replied.

He requested his acquittal and bail.

The case was adjourned to September 9 to appoint a lawyer for him.
