DUBAI // A man who befriended a woman after the two met while dropping their children off at school, began threatening her when she turned down his romantic advances, Dubai Criminal Court heard.

N A, 28, who holds a Comoros Islands passport, met Emirati housewife A E, 29, while the two were taking their children to the same school earlier this year.

In April this year, A E said N A began stalking her and demanding that they have an affair, but she refused and told him she was married.

“Once as I was driving on Al Khawaneej Road he swerved his car in front of mine, which forced me to stop. He threw a mobile phone into my car and said he would contact me on this phone,” the woman said.

She said that N A called her and told her he wanted her to divorce her husband.

A E hung up, but N A called and threatened to tell her family they were having an affair.

A E reported N A to police. Officers asked her to call N A and arrange a meeting at which he was arrested.

Prosecutors said that N A confessed during interrogations to threatening A E. Several threatening text messages were found on his phone.

N A was not in court yesterday to enter a plea against a charge of issuing threats.

The next hearing will be on December 30.
