DUBAI // A public relations agent assaulted a woman and threatened to chop off her head if she did not marry him, a court heard.

Prosecutors told the Dubai Criminal Court that Indian S S K, 40, proposed to compatriot S K while they were India. However, the 25-year-old rejected his advances and moved to Dubai last year.

S S K followed her to the emirate and began stalking her before she filed a complaint with police in December.

“I rejected his marriage proposal in India and moved to Dubai, he then followed me here and kept following me and asking me to marry him, which I kept rejecting,” said S K.

The victim, who works as a human resources manager, told prosecutors that SSK contacted her and told her to come to the front of her building to talk.

“He threatened that he would come up and destroy my room if I didn’t talk to him,” she said

SSK allegedly assaulted SK by grabbing her by the throat. “He grabbed me and threatened to kill me, my mother, my brother, and everyone in my family,” she told prosecutors.

Threatening messages sent by SSK to SK via Whatsapp were presented to the court.

SSK was charged with assault and issuing threats. He did not appear in court to enter a plea.

The next hearing is set for August 9.
