DUBAI // A 28-year-old man who was sentenced to one year in jail for raping a woman at his farm in Jebel Ali has had his conviction overturned by Dubai Court of Appeal.
The man, who insisted he was innocent and did not rape anyone, had been convicted by Dubai Criminal Court but the appeal court overruled the judgement on Monday morning after hearing from his lawyer, who said the woman involved was trying to blackmail his client.
The Emirati was accused of attacking the 23-year-old Italian-Moroccan on May 28, 2015 after inviting her to dinner but he will now walk free.
