A man poured acid on his wife and her lover after he caught the pair in their marital bed, Sharjah police sources said on Sunday.
The Sri Lankan, 30, carried out the attack on Friday then tried to flee the country.
Officers said he told investigators that he does not regret what he had done.
The man, a business owner, told officers that he fell in love with his wife two years before they got married in 2013 and never expected she would do such a thing.
It is believed he had to leave for his home country for a family emergency but returned a week later, after he saw a picture of his wife with another man on Facebook.
He arrived back in the UAE without telling his wife and stayed in a hotel in Sharjah. He then watched his wife's movements until he saw her returning to their home in the Nasiriyah area of Sharjah with her lover.
The husband followed the couple, who left the door unlocked, and heard them in bed. He entered the room and poured acid on the two. It is not known exactly what the substance was.
He then locked them inside the house and headed to Sharjah International Airport but was arrested before he boarded the plane.
His wife, 23, called the emergency services and ambulances took the two to Al Kuwaiti hospital. A hospital official said both were admitted to the ICU suffering from severe burns in various several parts of their bodies, and that the man's condition was worse than the woman's.
The man was referred to public prosecution for further investigation.
