DUBAI // A cleaner who stabbed a compatriot with a kitchen knife after learning the man had been having an affair with his wife has been jailed for three years.
The Bangladeshi defendant stabbed the victim twice and had to be restrained to stop him from stabbing the man again.
He denied an attempted murder charge in Dubai Criminal Court earlier this month.
The incident happened in Al Rafaa on August 31 last year. The 42-year-old was arrested after witnesses called police. He was found with bloodstains on his shirt.
“The bloodstains were visible and it was obvious he had tried to wash the blood off but failed,” an Emirati police officer said.
The defendant learnt about the affair and hid the knife behind his back when he confronted the victim before stabbing him.
The victim, whose age was not mentioned in records, suffered internal bleeding after the knife cut into his liver. He was taken to Rashid Hospital were he was kept under observation for three weeks.
A criminal laboratory report found the blood on the defendant’s shirt matched that of the victim.
He will be deported after the completion of his sentence.
