DUBAI // A man who molested a tourist as she watched last year's National Day celebrations at the Dubai Mall has been sent to jail.
Prosecutors said Malaysian N S, 19, was at Souk Al Bahar on December 2 at around 6pm with a friend when she felt Pakistani S L, 35, press his body against her back.
“My hand accidentally hit the man behind me, I turned and apologised to him,” said N S.
A minute later N S felt S L rubbing his body on her back. “I was shocked and afraid. I tried to move away but the defendant blocked me with his body.”
Witness S K, 65, from the UK, stated in records that the area was not that crowded, but S L stood close to N S, which she found suspicious.
“After 3 minutes I noticed the victim crying. I asked her what had happened and she told me that S L had pressed his body against her back and molested her,” said E K.
At the Dubai Criminal Court on Tuesday, S L denied the charge but was sentenced to 6 months in jail to be followed by deportation.
