Man denies insulting UAE and rulers on Twitter

ABU DHABI // A Twitter user has denied that he insulted the country’s rulers and the court system through his personal account.

N F, 27, an Emirati, is on trial at the Federal Supreme Court for spreading rumours, ideals, and information that defamed the country and harmed its safety and security.

He is also accused of calling the court system a ‘judicial farce’, with regards to the procedures of the sedition trial that took place in 2012.

N F also publicly insulted the President of the UAE and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi throughout the account, the court heard.

The defendant denied all charges and requested the court to hire a lawyer for his defence.

Judge Falah Al Hajeri approved his request and adjourned the case to May 4.
