DUBAI// A man allegedly helped a maid abscond from her sponsor before trying to sell her for Dh3,000 into a fake prostitution ring set up by police, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

A M, 35, from Bangladesh denied a human-trafficking charge when he appeared in court.

The victim, who is also from Bangladesh, said she came to the UAE in February to work for an Emirati family in Ras Al Kahimah. She said A M promised her a salary of Dh2,000 per month if she ran away.

On April 7, A M took the maid to a flat in Al Muhaisnah. The victim said A M raped her when she refused to have sex with him. He arranged to sell her on June 9.

Police arrested A M while he was waiting for the buyer, who was a police informant. The next hearing will be on September 28.
