DUBAI// A man delivered a bag containing four tablets of illegal drugs after being promised alcohol, a court has heard.
The 32-year-old Indian was arrested on February 6 this year after police were tipped off that two men were trying to sell drugs for Dh500.
“One of our sources posed as a buyer and agreed with the men selling the drugs to meet in Al Baraha next to a supermarket,” said a policeman, 25.
He added that as the undercover officer arrived at the location, he met an Indian man.
Both talked for a short time before the Indian man was arrested.
The defendant told officers he had been approached by a compatriot whom he did not know very well who asked him to deliver a bag and promised him alcohol in return.
“But he said he didn’t know the bag contained drugs,” said the officer.
The defendant was not present to enter a plea at the Dubai Criminal Court. The next hearing will be on August 16 to summon him to court.
