DUBAI // Customs officers found more than three kilograms of cocaine hidden in a man’s luggage and in his stomach as he transited through Dubai airport.
Prosecutors at the Dubai Criminal Court said Nigerian AN, 34, was stopped by customs officers in March while in transit to Nigeria. Officers noticed he was sweating and shaking while dragging a bag.
“Upon searching him we found cocaine capsules inside a pair of socks. He told us he bought the drugs for Dh7,000 and wanted to transport them to Nigeria and sell them,” said officer AH.
AN told prosecutors he met in Brazil who asked if wanted to earn money.
“I wanted a way to get more money, so he told me to deal in drugs.” AN said.
An X-ray revealed 89 capsules in AN’s stomach. In total 146 capsules cocaine were seized.
AN pleaded guilty to a charge of smuggling cocaine. The next hearing is set for August 12.
