DUBAI// A man who had stolen 14 boxes of French apples from his employer was caught attempting to steal four more, a court heard.

Bangladeshi R M, 20, who works as a loading worker at the Farzana Trading Company at the Fruit and Vegetable Market, stole a number of boxes containing apples on March 1 this year, Dubai Criminal Court heard.

“The security guard called me and said that he caught the loading men trying to sneak out a couple of apple boxes,” said warehouse supervisor H A, 53, from India.

H A said he spoke to the defendant who confessed to him he had been stealing and selling apples at a reduced price because he needed extra money. “I immediately told the manager who called police,” said H A. R M was taken into custody and referred to court where he confessed to theft and attempted theft charges and asked for mercy.

A verdict is expected on April 19.
