DUBAI // A Syrian man is accused of threatening to kill a Saudi trader who filed a police complaint against him.
The Saudi, 35, told prosecutors that he had been doing business with the Syrian and another man, but he later discovered he was being conned so he lodged a complaint with police.
“He was arrested during October last year and then again in December last year but was released on bail,” said the trader.
He said that since then he has received several threats and, on January 13 as he was walking in Al Awir, a Range Rover with no licence plate pulled over and the defendant stepped out.
“He told me that if I continued with the case against him he would have me killed and my body dumped in front of the police station, and that no one would know it was him,” said the Saudi, who ran off scared for his life and called police.
The Syrian, 36, was not at Dubai Criminal Court to face a charge of issuing death threats.
The next hearing is scheduled for November 6.
