Low-income families in Umm Al Quwain received Dh9 million in financial aid from the Dar Al Ber Society during the first half of the year.
The aid falls under directives from the emirate’s Ruler, Sheikh Saud bin Rashid, to support orphans, low-income families, and special needs students.
Ali Al Assi, chairman of the Low-Income Families Committee, where the familes had registered for help, said the money went towards home maintenance, electronic devices, and scholarships for needy students.
“The services expanded to national and foreign disadvantaged families even in other emirates,” Mr Al Assi said at a meeting between the committee and social workers.
The donations aim to help school social workers more effectively study - and respond - to cases involving low-income students.
