ABU DHABI // A cement mixer lorry caught fire on the Abu Dhabi to Dubai motorway in front of Al Raha Mall on Monday afternoon, bringing traffic to a standstill for more than an hour.

Smoke could be seen billowing from miles away as the vehicle was engulfed in flames at about 4.30pm in the middle of the E10 motorway.

Lt Col Jamal Salem Al Ameri, chief of public relations at Abu Dhabi Police's Traffic and Patrols Directorate, said investigations were under way to determine the cause of the fire but speculated it could have been caused by a technical failure in the engine.

"I could see huge plumes of smoke visible in the sky resulted in traffic jams," the motorist said.
