Lions, bears and monkeys make up first arrivals at Dh1bn Dubai Safari

Animals have been delivered from Seoul Grand Park, South Korea, to the Dubai Municipality attraction.

DUBAI // It is not clear if they will go two-by-two, but the first animals are arriving at the Dh1 billion Dubai Safari Park which is due to open in Al Warqa.

The 119-hectare estate is now home to four lions, nine bears, 10 bats and nine monkeys, who have become the first guests at the Dubai Municipality attraction after arriving from Seoul Grand Park, South Korea.

Once open, the zoo will be home to almost 10,500 animals from around the world, of which 350 species will be rare or endangered.

Although no official opening date has been announced, the animals are being moved in now to acclimatise them to their surroundings and the cooling system before the summer heat.

A message on Dubai Municipality’s Instagram account read: “Dubai Safari will be a global sanctuary in cooperation with World Safari to maintain the diversity that supports the living creatures on earth.

“Dubai Safari is committed in its plan to conserve the nature that will highlight it as a modern garden that will have a prestigious international respect by following the best practices in dealing with threatened species within dry environments.”

Treaty of Peace in Perpetuity Agreed Upon by the Chiefs of the Arabian Coast on Behalf of Themselves, Their Heirs and Successors Under the Mediation of the Resident of the Persian Gulf, 1853
(This treaty gave the region the name “Trucial States”.)

We, whose seals are hereunto affixed, Sheikh Sultan bin Suggar, Chief of Rassool-Kheimah, Sheikh Saeed bin Tahnoon, Chief of Aboo Dhebbee, Sheikh Saeed bin Buyte, Chief of Debay, Sheikh Hamid bin Rashed, Chief of Ejman, Sheikh Abdoola bin Rashed, Chief of Umm-ool-Keiweyn, having experienced for a series of years the benefits and advantages resulting from a maritime truce contracted amongst ourselves under the mediation of the Resident in the Persian Gulf and renewed from time to time up to the present period, and being fully impressed, therefore, with a sense of evil consequence formerly arising, from the prosecution of our feuds at sea, whereby our subjects and dependants were prevented from carrying on the pearl fishery in security, and were exposed to interruption and molestation when passing on their lawful occasions, accordingly, we, as aforesaid have determined, for ourselves, our heirs and successors, to conclude together a lasting and inviolable peace from this time forth in perpetuity.
