DUBAI // Two men have been sentenced to life in prison for impersonating police officers, kidnapping and raping a maid and assaulting her friend.
The jobless Pakistanis, aged 36 and 28, stopped the 29-year-old Filipina as she was leaving Al Safa park with an Indian friend in November 2013.
“We were stopped by the defendants who told us they were CID officers,” the victim told Dubai Criminal Court. She said the men asked why they were in the park together and ordered them to come with them to a police station.
“We begged them not to take us but they forced us to get into a white van,” she said.
Records showed that the defendants took the maid’s phone, Dh300 from her purse, and her friend’s wallet.
The woman and her friend begged to be let go, but the men assaulted them both before stopping the van and throwing the victim’s friend out. They ordered him not to contact her again.
The maid told prosecutors that one of the men told her she would be released if she pleasured him.
They then took turns raping the maid in the back of the van before giving her back her purse and mobile and dropping her off near her home.
The victim then called police and reported the incident.
At a hearing in June last year, both defendants denied charges of kidnap, impersonating police officers, theft, rape, and assault.
They will be deported after serving their terms.
