AL AIN // A labour complaint has been filed against a private company in Al Ain after it fired all 35 of its female Emirati employees.

The employees said the company refused to pay them their last salary or provide them with certificates of experience unless they signed a waiver stating they had been paid their fees and allowances in full and had no further claims against the company, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister paper of The National.

The employees filed a complaint demanding their rights be upheld, which they said should reflect more than three years of service, as well as severance pay, arbitrary termination compensation, leave allowance and reimbursement of monthly deductions averaging Dh600.

They said they had pressing financial commitments, especially in the run up to Eid.

Al Ittihad acquired copies of documents relating to the case, including employment contracts, a waiver letter and a copy of an employee’s salary cheque.

The women’s monthly salaries ranged from Dh7,000 to Dh9,000, of which a Dh400 to Dh600 fee was deducted each month. No information was available on the reason for the monthly deduction.

All 35 employees have hired attorney Abdullah Al Shehi to represent them. Mr Al Shehi filed the labour complaint and reimbursement claims on their behalf.
