DUBAI // A tenant accused her landlord of threatening to kill her and burn down the villa if she did not leave, a court heard on Monday.
The Emirati landlord sobbed as she denied a charge of issuing threats to kill.
“I didn’t, how could I if she had already evacuated the place before the date of the alleged incident?” said defendant NA, 48, a journalist.
The victim HH, 35, who is also Emirati, said that on August 13 at nearly 7pm she was at her rented villa in Mirdif when the doorbell rang.
“I opened the door and saw the landlord inside her car and screaming at me, saying that if I didn’t get out of the villa and handed her the key she would kill me,” said HH. “I told her there is law in this country but she replied telling me ‘let the law help you then.’”
HH went to Rashidiya police station and reported her landlord for threatening to kill her.
At the Dubai Criminal Court, the landlord denied the charge. A verdict is due on November 18.
