ABU DHABI// Two juveniles were sentenced to two years in jail for the robbery of a coffee shop in which an employee was severely beaten.
On Sunday, Abu Dhabi Criminal Court heard how the defendants, 16 and 17, were part of a gang of four involved in the crime.
They watched from the street until the employee locked up the store at the end of the day then assaulted him.
When he refused to hand over the money, they beat him all over his body and escaped with the day’s takings in cash.
The attackers were arrested after the victim was able to identify them from police photos.
Despite the defendants’ age, they were tried as adults, as UAE law allows judges to choose to move the case to adult court if the crime is serious enough.
