ABU DHABI // A joyriding teenager who hit a 60-year-old man and left him for dead has been arrested in Ras Al Khaimah.
The 15-year-old Emirati was driving without a licence when he knocked an Asian man off his bike, causing severe injuries.
Ras Al Khaimah Police said they believed he was driving the family car.
The victim was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition, according to Col Abdullah Ali Mankhas, head of traffic in Ras Al Khaimah.
The boy was arrested less than an hour after the incident, the colonel told Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister paper of The National.
Police patrols that were dispatched to the area surround the accident site found a vehicle parked outside a house and covered in a sheet. Upon inspection, officers found a shattered windscreen and collision dents.
The boy is also said to have sustained minor injuries in the accident. It was not clear from the police report what legal measure would be taken against the minor.
Col Al Mankhas urged parents to watch their children and never allow them to drive without a licence.
