DUBAI // An investor is charged with assaulting and insulting a man from whom he allegedly borrowed Dh200,000.

Dubai Criminal Court heard that Saudi defendant O A, 57, also took by force a receipt he signed that admitted he had borrowed money from his victim.

Egyptian A A, 47, said in records that he was discussing how the Saudi would repay him in a restaurant in Al Muraqqabat on April 25 alongside a friend when the incident occurred.

“He had lured me into paying him the money to be partner in a project that turned out to be fake, so I was talking to him and asking for my money back,” said the Egyptian.

“During our negotiations, he pulled the receipt that he signed when I handed him the money out of my hand then tore it into pieces.”

He said the Saudi then assaulted him with a blow to the head and grabbed him by the neck, causing him scratches, and insulted him by saying he was the son of an adulterer.

The witness, M A, 32, from Egypt, agreed with A A’s story.

In court, the Saudi denied the charges, saying the claims were malicious.

The next hearing will be on November 10.
