ABU DHABI // A newspaper that briefly had its website hacked on Friday is working closely with the authorities to find those responsible.
Al Ittihad, The National’s Arabic sister publication, was hacked by an organisation called Youth of Islamic Caliphate.
Visitors to the website were redirected to a site displaying various derogatory comments made against high profile individuals in the UAE including Lt General Dahi Khalfan, Dubai’s head of general security and Major Mariam Al Mansouri, a UAE air force pilot.
In a statement posted on its website after the attack, the paper said: “Al Ittihad confirms that this terrorist statement and the naive hacking of its website only bolsters its stance against terrorism in all its form and sources.”
It said “Al Ittihad newspaper works in full coordination with the competent authorities and agencies in the state to identify these terrorist hackers.
“Al Ittihad wishes to reassure its readers that its website is fully operational and that the terrorist hackers failed to hack it. They were only able to hack the link to the website. The authorities were able to approximately locate the hackers’ location.”
