'Internet gangster' arrested for video

ABU DHABI // A virtual gang leader who promoted a fake video clip of his ability to harass individuals through the internet was arrested on Friday night by Sharjah police.

RAA, a 24-year-old Arab nicknamed "Danjur", was detained after broadcasting a video clip in which he boasts about his ability to torture and extort his victims. The video also contained voices of people screaming for help in a rap style.

The broadcast was discovered after complaints were made through online social groups. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, the Minister of Interior, ordered the man's arrest. Sheikh Saif said although the short film was nothing more than false pretences and childish tampering, such actions harm the reputation of the UAE.

The man's sister was also arrested and the pair confessed to "making up silly charades", according to Maj Gen Humaid Mohammed al Hudaid, commander in chief of the Sharjah police.
