DUBAI // An inmate waited until his fellow prisoner had fallen asleep before he raped him, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Sunday.

Emirati A A, 33, is alleged to have carried out the rape on October 1 last year after the victim, who has Hepatitis C, took medication which sent him into a deep sleep.

Emirati A D, 23, told the court he knew he had been abused after a bad pain woke him up.

“It was nearly 9pm when I took five tablets prescribed by the psychiatrist, some of which are sleeping pills,” said the prisoner. “I woke up at almost 4am to bad pain and found the defendant behind me. I knew then he had raped me.”

A D then confronted the defendant, who denied any wrongdoing.

A forensic report presented in court showed traces of the defendant’s DNA on the victim’s clothes and body, indicating sexual intercourse.

The case was adjourned until December 21 after the defendant did not present himself at the latest hearing.
