DUBAI // A non-resident driving a rented car tried to bribe inspectors who caught him offering an illegal taxi service at Dubai airport’s terminal 2.

Indian L F, 34, was spotted by two RTA inspectors as he met three men at the terminal and then headed to a Kia Sportage parked nearby.

The inspectors followed the men and approached the driver, who claimed that they were all friends and he was giving them a lift. However, when the inspectors asked the men, they said they were paying L F Dh200 to drive them to Al Ain.

Somalian inspector A L, 31, said he and his colleague headed to their car to issue the man a fine for working as a taxi without a licence but he followed them.

“He followed us and knocked on the window then offered us Dh800 as a bribe to overlook the violation,” said A L.

The inspector called the police, who arrested him and confiscated the Dh800 that he had placed in the inspector’s car.

In court, the man denied a charge of offering a bribe.

The next hearing will be on August 23.
