There has been a sharp drop in human trafficking cases dealt with by Dubai Police, a report has revealed.
It also showed a notable drop in labour strikes in the first half of the year.
Maj Gen Khamis Al Muzaina, deputy chief of Dubai Police, said the semi-annual report by the Human Trafficking Monitoring Office showed eight cases involving 10 victims, compared with 12 reported cases and 18 victims - all female - in the same period last year.
Five of the victims were Asian, two European, two Arab and one child born out of wedlock after a relationship between an Asian mother and a man who left the country.
The child's mother tried to sell her but was arrested.
Nineteen people - 10 men and nine women - were arrested for human trafficking this year compared with 31 people in the same period last year. Most suspects were Asian and often of the same nationality as their victims.
Maj Gen Al Muzaina said seven of the cases this year involved sexual exploitation.
Five of the victims were UAE residents and four entered the country on tourist visas.
He said Dubai Police offered legal and financial support of Dh7,400 to the victims.
