DUBAI // A hospital has been ordered to close by a court after it hired staff, including a doctor and a nurse, who were not qualified for the medical jobs they were doing.

The Dubai Court of Misdemeanours closed the private 50-bed hospital, which opened in 2005. Health inspectors discovered that hospital staff were working in medical positions without being licensed. The matter was referred to police.

Investigations led to five men, and the hospital itself, being charged with practising a human medicine profession without licences, endangering lives, and criminal complicity. Three Indian defendants, and the hospital, were found guilty of all charges.

The three were fined Dh10,000 and barred from practising in any related medical profession. Two were found not guilty. The hospital was fined Dh20,000 and ordered to close. Court documents did not name the hospital.
