RAS AL KHAIMAH // An Asian man was arrested with eight capsules containing 51.6 grammes of heroin in his stomach, police said.

RAK Police received a tip-off that the man was travelling to the UAE with the illegal drugs, said Colonel Adnan Ali Al Zaabi, director of the force’s Drug Enforcement Administration.

“A team was formed to monitor, control and follow the movements of people coming from that Asian country through the border until the wanted person was identified by the anti-drug cops,” Col Al Zaabi said.

“He was frightened and bewildered. And when he was confronted, he admitted [the charge against him], and then he was transferred to a hospital to extract the capsules from his bowels.”

A police report was sent to prosecutors for charges to be brought, the director added.

Police said he arrested at the border, but would not confirm whether the man arrived at RAK Airport or a land border.
