The body of an Emirati has been recovered after a vehicle was washed away by heavy rain in Wadi Al Kihla, Oman.

Five Emiratis were travelling when their vehicle was caught in flooding in the wilaiyat of Modhaibi, the Times of Oman reported.

Four people were rescued by the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance. The body of the fifth was found on Friday morning.

Those involved have not been named.

Warnings were repeated by emergency services for drivers to take extra care and avoid low-lying areas where possible when driving in the sultanate.

A source at Oman police told the Times that warnings had been issued about the dangers of crossing wadis but that some drivers had not taken the danger seriously.

The police source added: “There were about 65 wadis flooded in the last two days.

“Royal Oman Police has given advice and spread awareness in different languages.”

Police powers are restricted to fining reckless drivers found to be ignoring the warnings.

So far during the recent heavy rains, eight people have died and several others are missing.

Poor weather has been caused by a depression in the Arabian Sea that had taken heavy rains inland to the sultanate.
