ABU DHABI // Customers covered by the national health insurer Daman are now able to use their Emirates ID card for health care services.

Daman and Thiqa members now only need their Emirates ID to receive medical services the health insurance company announced on Sunday.

Those eligible for services outside the UAE will have to continue using their health insurance cards when travelling as Daman plans to implement the programme globally are still under way.

Customers will still be able to use their current health insurance cards to access services until the insurance cards are phased out.

Hamad Al Mehyas, Daman’s chief process officer, said the new system would streamline the admission process.

“Most UAE residents already carry their Emirates ID cards with them at all times, so we expect that the convenience in using the same card to access health care services will be welcomed by all members,” Mr Al Mehyas said.

Emirates ID cards will also be used to apply and renew policy, however, Daman explained the validity of health insurance policies and Emirates ID cards are not linked.

Daman has almost three million members in the UAE.
