The UAE reported 3,276 cases of Covid-19 on Saturday and a further 12 deaths.

There were 4,041 recoveries and 150,706 people were tested in the past 24 hours.

The latest update takes total cases since the pandemic began to 323,402 and total recoveries to 301,081.

The death toll from the virus since February, 2020 stood at 914 on Saturday.

In the past seven days, 76 people in the UAE died of Covid-19 in one of the worst weeks on record.

It followed a spike in cases in January when figures rose from under 1,000 per day to almost 4,000.

On Saturday, Abu Dhabi's government imposed a remote work order for most public sector staff and those working in semi-government companies and authorities.

Officials also told malls to operate at 40 per cent of their total customer capacity.

Gyms were limited to 50 per cent, while restaurants and coffee shops must admit no more than 60 per cent of their capacity.

On Friday, Vox Cinemas said it had been ordered to close its screens in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain “until further notice”.

Last week, Dubai imposed a series of restrictions on the hospitality and retail industry, including shutting some pubs and bars, cancelling live events and prohibiting brunches.
