SHARJAH // Citizens aged 55 and over who already receive subsidies from the government will now be eligible for health coverage.

The emirates’s Social Services Department will provide the insurance, after a ruling was made by Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler.

Residents aged 65 and over who receive no support from the social services department will also benefit, Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister paper of The National reported.

Eligible residents in the latter category must apply for their insurance cards in person at the department, while those in the first group will automatically be sent cards.
