DUBAI // Smartphones and tablets can now be used to access medical records and check on hospital appointments under new measures to improve patients’ access to health information.
The modernisation of online services by Dubai Health Authority is the latest move towards a paperless environment, a key focus of the Smart Government initiative.
Two new apps, Dubai Doctors and Sehhaty, will offer 93 smart services linked to the DHA website. Of those, 30 are health related, 20 are healthcare facility services, 14 are healthcare professional services, 17 are general services, six are educational services and six fall under other categories. The modernisation will also help medical professionals, making it easier to issue and renew licences for doctors and facilities.
The new e-services can be downloaded now from online app stores and are compatible on all mobile devices.
Patients will be able to cancel or reschedule an appointment, renew health cards or request a duplicate, view lab results, medication information and apply for a medical report.
Online services are also being extended to improve the Dubai Residency Training programme, a structured system of training and education bridging the gap between undergraduate medical courses and career positions.
Further advancements in what future healthcare may look like will be on show at Digital Health Live at the Dubai World Trade Centre from tomorrow.
The three-day event, hosted by the DHA in partnership with UAE digital health firm Nuviun, will display the latest technologies to provide people innovations to make better health life choices.

What is hepatitis?
Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver, which can lead to fibrosis (scarring), cirrhosis or liver cancer.
There are 5 main hepatitis viruses, referred to as types A, B, C, D and E.
Hepatitis C is mostly transmitted through exposure to infective blood. This can occur through blood transfusions, contaminated injections during medical procedures, and through injecting drugs. Sexual transmission is also possible, but is much less common.
People infected with hepatitis C experience few or no symptoms, meaning they can live with the virus for years without being diagnosed. This delay in treatment can increase the risk of significant liver damage.
There are an estimated 170 million carriers of Hepatitis C around the world.
The virus causes approximately 399,000 fatalities each year worldwide, according to WHO.
